Why Moving The Stairs Can Mean Pausing Live Design

If you want to add a second story or move the stairs completely over to the other side, I may need to stop a live design session and work through that change. Moving the stairs can change the whole floor plan. That can take more than an hour to sort out.

We try to do as much as we can together in the meeting. Once the initial concept is ready, you come in, we show it to you, and we start moving through the design. If there's something we can change on the spot, we make that change right then and there.

That's what I want from live design: to make the decisions together while we're looking at the same thing. When there isn't much to change, we can get those changes made during the session.

But sometimes the response is that the concept isn't at all what you want. Adding another story or completely relocating the stairs means I need to pull away, do the work, and come back to it. I want to resolve as much as possible live, but I also know when a change needs more time than we have in that meeting.

The goal is for the what we're designing to be set when you walk out. Then we work on the how. Getting the design settled together is what we're aiming for in those live sessions.
