I Am Not The Single Source Of Truth

I don’t always know how a tool works or what something is doing. When that happens, I ask my team. Being the person taking the lead at Den & Burrow doesn’t make me the single source of truth.

Humility matters in how we talk to each other. I need to be able to say I don’t know and refer to someone on the team who does. If I’m too proud to ask, I’m getting in the way of my own learning.

We’re going to take the lead, but we’re also willing to learn. I want your feedback and criticism, even when it means I have to reconsider something. I don’t want us to reach a point where we say we’ve done it, we’re the masters of everything.

That conviction ties back to the name Den & Burrow. A hole in the ground is a humble place to start. From dust we were made, and to dust we’re going to return. We’re human. We’re trying to build shelters made from the earth, humble shelters, honest and real things. I want to keep that sense of who we are as the business grows.

If we ever get too big for our britches, I think we’re doing something wrong. The value of humility is something I want to keep forever in this business. That includes being willing to admit that an idea I care about could be wrong.
