What Does A Five-By-Nine Bathroom Actually Look Like?

You can read “five by nine” on a floor plan and still have no idea what that bathroom will look like from inside. The dimensions are there, but you need a frame of reference to make sense of them.

I think that’s a big thing to ask of someone when we hand them a set of plans. Unless you have someone in your family who can interpret drawings and help you picture the space, it can be almost impossible to visualize what’s actually going to happen on the property.

That’s why I think 3D visualization and modeling are critical. We can put the camera inside the modeled room and pan around. Instead of looking down at a rectangle labeled as a bathroom, you’re looking around the space. You have something to connect those dimensions to, and you may realize that the room looks small.

It’s never perfect. Looking through a screen is a very focused lens. You can move the camera around, but you still can’t capture the true feeling of being there, with the full sense of scale and size.

Even with that limit, I’d much rather help someone understand a room this way than leave them with a top-down floor plan alone. To me, being able to look around the model gives people a frame of reference for making real decisions about the space.
