Costs and budgets

I Want A Whole-Foods Home, Not A Fast-Food Home

I want a house with unlacquered brass knobs, stone and bare wood timber. Those are the details I have in mind when I talk about a beautiful home. Something substantial. Something nice. I think of it as a whole-foods home.

The cost of building a beautiful home has risen over time. If you don’t have a ton of money, your choices can feel pretty limited. That’s the unfortunate part: wanting something better doesn’t mean you can afford to build it.

I think demand is part of the problem, too. I want to hear from people who are looking for these materials and details and want them to matter in the design.

When I name brass knobs, stone or timber, I’m giving that idea of a whole-foods home a concrete form. Those are things I’d like people to consider when they picture the home they want.

I believe there’s a market for this. I’m trying to find it and speak to people who see the same problem, people who are tired of the fast-food home and want something substantial to live in. That’s the kind of home I want to build.
